Description
Asata Shakur (born JoAnne Deborah Byron, July 16, 1947 – September 25, 2025) is our beloved ancestor. She lived as a revolutionary activist and fugitive, member of the Black Panther Party, and later the Black Liberation Army. In 1977, she was convicted of a crime of which there was no evidence of her perpetration. She escaped from prison in 1979 cuz she’s a bad ass. She went on to achieve the #1 spot on the FBI’s America’s Most Wanted list with a $2 Million reward. She was never caught, cuz she’s a magical bad ass, and she remained a fugitive for 45 years, maintaining that #1 Most Wanted Spot until her passing. This mugshot was taken in April 1971, but her image can be burned in our hearts forever. Thank you Queen Mother Asata Shakur. It was not in vain.
